Twenty-eight professionals from nine Caribbean countries involved in the management of protected areas engaged in 6 days of intensive learning and sharing of experiences. Held in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic from 11-16 January, 2016, this course covered the design and management of protected areas, law enforcement and governance for protected areas, participatory governance of protected areas and sustainable tourism planning and management of tourism enterprises.

The Caribbean Protected Areas Gateway (Caribbean Gateway) has been accelerating its engagement with regional governmental and non-governmental organisations (NGO) to equip them to contribute meaningfully to its Caribbean Reference Information System (RIS) , an online access point to data and tools for analysis for biodiversity and protected area management.

Deux ateliers de formation auront lieu du 3 au 6 février à Gitega (Burundi) et du 8 au 10 février 2016 à Diapaga (Burkina Faso) pour renforcer les compétences des conservateurs et administrateurs sur la gestion des aires protégées à travers l’utilisation de l’outil IMET (Integrated Management Effectiveness Tool). Ces formations sont organisées par le programme BIOPAMA en collaboration avec des partenaires régionaux et nationaux.

A public conference to present the results of the BIOPAMA programme in improving the biodiversity and protected area management in Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries will be held on Thursday, 4 February 2016 in Brussels.

In 2015 the East African Community Secretariat became the host of the Observatory for Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management that serves the East African Community (EAC) countries. Following a regional kick-off meeting to introduce the EAC Observatory to users and providers, a series of national engagements has been taking place in the EAC countries since the last quarter of 2015.
