BIOPAMA tiene como objetivo enfrentar las amenazas a la biodiversidad en tres puntos críticos de biodiversidad en África, el Caribe y el Pacífico (ACP) y al mismo tiempo contribuir a la reducción de la pobreza en las comunidades en y alrededor de las áreas protegidas. El programa combina la mejor información científica y técnica disponible con la creación de capacidades, el desarrollo de políticas, y una mejor toma de decisiones sobre la conservación de la biodiversidad, la gestión de las áreas protegidas, y el acceso y participación en los beneficios.
El Programa Mundial de Áreas Protegidas de la UICN trabaja con los socios del programa y a través de las oficinas regionales de la UICN en África Oriental y Meridional, África Occidental y Central, Mesoamérica y el Caribe, y Oceanía para desarrollar BIOPAMA desde la base misma. La participación de Miembros de la UICN es fundamental para el éxito de este programa y el sitio web describe en detalle lo que sucede en su región y a quién contactar para participar.
El sitio web será la base de conocimientos de BIOPAMA así como una importante fuente de noticias a medida que avanza el programa.
BIOPAMA es implementado conjuntamente por la UICN, el Centro Común de Investigación (CCI) de la Comisión Europea, y la Iniciativa Multi Donante de Desarrollo de Capacidades para ABS, gestionado por la Agencia Alemana de Cooperación Internacional (GIZ). Se trata de una iniciativa de la Secretaría ACP financiada por la Unión Europea.

Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management (BIOPAMA) website now live!
A new website for the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management Programme (BIOPAMA) has just been launched. Find out more about this leading-edge capacity development programme at www.biopama.org
BIOPAMA aims to address threats to biodiversity in three of the world’s biodiversity hotspots, in African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries, while reducing poverty in communities in and around protected areas. Specifically, the programme will make the best science and knowledge available to support capacity building, policy development and better decision-making on biodiversity conservation, protected areas management, and access and benefit-sharing.
The Global Protected Areas Programme is working with programme partners and through regional IUCN offices in Eastern and Southern Africa, West and Central Africa, Mesoamerica and the Caribbean, and Oceania to build BIOPAMA from the ground up. Involving IUCN Members is key to the success of this programme, and the website details what is happening in your region and who to contact to get involved.
The website will serve as the knowledge base for BIOPAMA, as well as an important source of news as the programme progresses.
BIOPAMA is jointly implemented by IUCN, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, and the multi-donor Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) Capacity Development Initiative managed by GIZ. It is an initiative of the ACP Secretariat and is funded by the European Union.
