In Eastern and Southern Africa, the BIOPAMA programme works with existing institutions in the regions to establish the Regional Resource Hubs (RRH). It will be a regional node for the BIOPAMA Reference Information System (RIS) – an online platform to facilitate the exchange and use of data/information and to implement relevant capacity building initiatives for the region.
The RIS will gather in one place the information from many knowledge products, projects, databases on protected areas, species and related information, in addition to data uploaded and generated by users themselves. This information can be used to support decision-making for planning, designating and managing protected areas.
Webinar One: Data exploration, discovery and sharing
Wednesday, 20th February 2019, 13h00 (UTC+3)
This webinar will present on how to use the new RIS to explore and discover data, to help users understand how to publish and document data, and what kinds of things are appropriate/relevant to share. It will introduce the BIOPAMA RRH and BIOPAMA Technical Officer, as well as the JRC team that will work with each country going forward.
This webinar will address the question: we would like to access information, products and resources, as well as upload some of our own, how do we do it and who can support us with this?

Webinar Two: Data use and analysis
Wednesday, 13 March 2019, 13h00 (UTC+3)
This webinar will focus on the actual use of data that has been mobilised. This will include presenting on the data analysis activities that would actually lead to information products. Example information products include graphs and trends used to report on the state of biodiversity and protected areas, or landscape prioritisations designed to support strategic decision making. By uploading such resources to the RIS, regional users can illustrate the reasoning behind management decisions, and foster exchange of knowledge and best practice.
This webinar will address the question: where data has already been collected, how do we do something meaningful with it?

Both webinars will be recorded and loaded on the BIOPAMA website for future reference.
