Introducing Hyacinth Armstrong, New BIOPAMA Focal Point for the Caribbean

11 November 2013

Hyacinth Armstrong-Vaughn has recently joined the IUCN Mesoamerican and Caribbean Initiative team as the Protected Areas Officer for the BIOPAMA programme.

Hyacinth has significant experience in designing, managing and implementing environmental projects within the Caribbean. Prior to working with IUCN, she managed the ICRAN Coastal and Marine Management and Education in the Southeastern Caribbean project. This project provided training, networking opportunities and financial support to marine protected areas in five Caribbean countries; and produced a short film showcasing the marine protected areas of the southeastern Caribbean.

She sees the BIOPAMA programme as a great opportunity and support for improving protected area management within the Caribbean region.  “BIOPAMA will allow us to access, more readily, our regional and global network of experts to help strengthen our protected areas management systems,” said Hyacinth. She will be based at the offices of the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES), an IUCN member at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus in Barbados.
